Luke's Arm

Tuesday Luke was trying out his friend's rip-stick skateboard and fell off and caught himself with his hands. His left arm bone cracked and bent backwards. As soon as I saw it I knew he broke something. We took him to the ER and they put a splint on him and sent us to the bone doctor the next day.

Luke's splint

The doctor told us he needs to set the bone back together and to do that he had to put him to sleep. So 6:30 A.M. we went to the hospital. He was nervous.

Daddy read to him to keep his mind off being put to sleep. They also gave him some relaxing meds. These made him SO SILLY! He was singing and giggling. I wish I had the video camera! He says that he doesn't remember that at all! It started to freak me out a little!

It only lasted about 20 minutes! The doctor said that he will have the cling and soft cast on for a week. Then he will x-ray his arm, makes sure that the bone is where it's supposed to be and then put on a hard cast.

Luke was a trooper through all this! He didn't even cry! The nurse said he will probably be tired and take a few naps the rest of the day...she doesn't know my Luke! He was out with his friends trying to play 4-square! Didn't even take 1 nap! We will see how the rest of the summer will go trying to keep him from all the activity he does! Hopefully this will be the first AND last broken bone :) Time will tell.
